Akio Sugino

Akio Sugino (杉野　昭夫) was born in 1944.

One of the most prominent character designers and animation directors of early anime. Worked a lot with Osamu Dezaki, which led to him designing a lot of early anime classics such as Ashita on Joe and Ace wo Nerae!.

Joined Mushi Pro after starting drawing as a Mangaka, and then after Mushi Pro went bankrupt participated in founding Madhouse and stayed there. When Dezaki started working on Ashita no Joe 2, Sugino couldn't participate in the project because of Madhouse's policies, so he left the studio and founded Studio Annapuru (スタジオあんなぷる) to circumvent that.

Currently a regular on Tezuka Production's projects.
