Ichiro Itano(板野 一郎) was born in 1959, in Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture. He started at Studio Musashi, then Cockpit, then "Biboo"(ビーボォー), then "Kyugetsusha"(九月社), then Artland and Artland III(with temporary leave to Anime Friend, which was a subsidiary of Tatsunoko Pro, during Macross), then D.A.S.T(dissolved in 2011), then Graphinica(as of 2017). In Graphinica he does the role of a Creative Advisor, like guiding and training the staff.

He is most known for his technique, "Itano Circus", where a swarm of missiles is launched at once at a flying target, in a dynamic way. It's said that the idea of the Circus came to him after doing a stunt with his bike as a college student, as he mounted a lot of fireworks to his bike and fired them while riding the bike.

His action scenes are top-notch, especially when it involves mecha, as he is one of the industry's top mecha animators. In terms of imitators and influence in action animation, it's said that Yoshinori Kanada and Ichiro Itano are on a class of their own.

He started standing out with Mobile Suit Gundam, even under a tight supervision. He became the talk of the industry and animation fans a like with his work on Ideon, where he used his famous circus for the first time. Even after that, he was forced to return to his job as a truck driver. Not for long though, as he was invited to work on The Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Even though Macross was a hectic production, stained by hard designs that led to animators running away and tight schedules that caused unfinished episodes to be broadcasted, Itano delivered amazing work. He was one of the main staff that kept the show afloat and delivered episode 27, an episode of magnificent quality that makes it unforgettable even today.

In the last couple of years, Itano has been more interested in CG technology, pursuing achieving the circus in CG among other things.
