Masayuki Yoshihara

Masayuki Yoshihara(吉原 正行), also nicknamed "Taisho(大将)", started his career at Studio Live. Also worked for Pierrot where he learned from Tetsuya Nishio. After meeting Kamiyama Kenji while working on The Hakkenden, he started gradually shifting towards directing rather than animating.

In 2000 he helped founding P.A. Works. At the time, there were only few other people besides him and the president Horikawa. Now he is the head of the animation department. Usually he works at the P.A. Works office in Tokyo, in Kodaira.

"Both as a director and as an animator he has a proclivity towards naturalism. This was first prominently seen in episode 41 of Ninku, where he both storyboarded and redid the character sheets completely in a gritty style. The early 00s saw an increased focus on direction for him on shows like Angelic Layer, Android Kikaider, and especially Medabots. One recurring image from his episodes are shadows caused by Venetian blinds. Many of his episodes are romance stories"1.
