Ryo-chimo(りょーちも) was born in 1979. Real name Ryousuke Sawa. Early webgen animator who was first scouted by Osamu Kobayashi for BECK in 2004. Trained under Satoru Utsunomiya and especially Norio Matsumoto at Satelight during Noein, where he turned in some of the show’s most visceral fight scenes. Currently at Tatsunoko spearheading the studio’s recent turn towards webgen animation. 1

Specializes in realistic character animation. His cuts are so convincing that they can be confused for rotoscope (he records reference footage for his scenes). Uses Flash and other digital animation software extensively, and has been experimenting with blender as of late, but also is a capable analog animator. Barring a few exceptions (like the sketchy lineart of his Noein 12 shots), his character animation is relatively unadorned with graphic stylization. Has a preference towards soft pastel colors. 1

Character designer and chief animation director for both seasons of Birdy the Mighty: Decode. Ryo-chimo was responsible for the show’s high density of webgen experimentation and general level of polish. Birdy would function as a stepping stone for Ryo-chimo’s transition to direction. For his next major project, a reboot of the Yozakura Quartet series, he served as director, character designer, and chief animation director. Ryo-chimo was behind the Hoshi no Umi OVA, the Hana no Uta TV series, and the third episode of the Tsuki ni Niku OVA. The series featured astonishing production values but garnered controversy for its obscene levels of fanservice. 1
