Takafumi Hori

Hori Takafumi(堀　剛史) graduated from the The Film Department in Musashino University of Arts. In 1999, he won an Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival, with his self-produced short named A Story of The Night's Moon(月の夜の話). And in the same year, he joined the Nippon Animation as an episode director assistant. He left Nippon Animation to join Madhouse, where he switched to work as an animator. He is freelance now, but his desk is located at Trigger and works regularly on their projects.

His main style is heavily influenced by You Yoshinari particularly in how he handles smears and background animation, the latter being the reason Hori joined the industry in the first place. He excels in smokes and effects. He also gives great emphasis to drawing, having a distinguished art style clear in posters and even in the scenes he animates. Hori started attracting attention for his mechanical animation in Redline and his fight scenes in Samurai Champloo and You Are Umasou. One of the main key animators on Yoshinari’s Little Witch Academia and a regular contributor on Kill la Kill¹.

Traditional animator but uses tablets and digital tools as well.
